Quinta leaves millions in damages, affects thousands in Hinobaan town

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Typhoon Quinta left Hinobaan town with at least P6.9 million in estimated damages to agriculture, rice crops and infrastructure, based on the partial assessment of the municipality.

Hinobaan is a first-class town at least 190 kilometers from here that borders the province with the Oriental side.

According to the records of Municipal Agriculture, the damage on agriculture, livestock and rice crops reached P4,363,500 with around 240 hectares of land and 198 farmers affected.

Records from the Municipal Engineering Office, on the other hand, showed damage to infrastructure reaching P2.6 million, including bridges in Talacagay and Bacuyangan villages.

Most of the damage on agriculture and infrastructure were in the barangays Talacagay, Bacuyangan and San Rafael.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, recorded nine barangays, 375 families and 1,567 individuals affected by floodings.

Meanwhile, some parts of the municipality were still experiencing power outage due to the recent typhoon.

Capitol’s Risk Reduction and Management Office has reported that as of press time, flooding in typhoon-hit area have subsided.
