BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The local water utilities firm here will not cut off water connections until 31 October as the city goes under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until end of September, a decision made during a meeting yesterday of its officials.

Billing, however, will continue for the August period and office operations of the Bacolod City Water District, Mona Dia Jardin, BACIWA director, told DNX.

The moratorium on disconnection means BACIWA will allow staggered payments only for the September billing period, Jardin added.

The firm had also bought additional power generators for its pumping stations that usually run out of water during power outages of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative.

She said these, however, are not enough for the pumping stations but Jardin cannot cite any figures as to the number of stations and power generators.

Collections, meanwhile, will continue and consumers can pay through private remittance centers, she added.
