BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – “Bruha” is Filipino for witch.

On the streets, it could also mean a woman with a vile attitude.

Here, however, they help in the fight against CoViD.

By helping civic-minded people and groups.

Like a coven that needs at least four witches, one for each corner of the Earth, the Good Bruhas have five: Leanna Lopez Liongson, Celeste Lacson, Johanna Montilla, Diana Lopez, and Victoria Jaoud.

This week, it was the Good Bruhas who provided the Personal Protective Equipment or PPEs (not hexes and spells) to a core of volunteers under the Citizens Onwards for Prevention and Safety (COPS) Brigade to disinfect 10 police stations here, from Sum-ag village in the south to Mandalagan in the north and the Bacolod City Police Office headquarters.

Jocson, a visual artist who documented the project, said “in this pandemic we are all victims, and it takes a whole lot of courage to rise up and fight against this unseen enemy that attacks us silently.”

“But If we rise up as one, extend every little help we can give slowly and slowly we will succeed in our battle against COVID19.”
