The Governor’s Cup Inter-District 3X3 Basketball Tournament kicked off in San Carlos City last weekend. And the Provincial Sports Office (PSO) team continued its District III and District IV Eliminations on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The city of Silay was the host venue for the third district playoffs, and the municipality of Pulupandan for the fourth district eliminations.
It was indeed the battle of the best LGU team in the sport of basketball, and Talisay City has emerged victorious again in the 16-under category with a record of three (3) wins and no loss during the District III eliminations in Silay City. Second on the rank, on the other hand, was the city of Silay.
For the 19-under category, Silay City was a strong team to defeat as it ranked first, and Victorias City was in second place. Participating teams in the third district were Talisay City, Silay City, Victorias City, and Murcia.
At the District IV elimination in Pulupandan, La Carlota City nabbed the top spot in the 16-under category with three (3) wins and no record of defeat, while Bago City landed in second place.
Pulupandan, the host venue of the tournament, also ranked on top in the 19-under category. The team was followed by La Carlota City as the second placer. The District IV teams included Bago City, Pulupandan, Pontevedra, and La Carlota City.
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of the municipality of Pulupandan headed by SK Ryan Paloa was in full support of the PSO and the ABANSE NEGRENSE Sports Programs. Apart from the SKs, SB Yves Valenzuela and the municipality’s sports coordinator Mr. Rogelio Espartero were also present at the event.
The top two (2) winning teams in each district will proceed to the Inter-District semi-finals and finals on Nov. 12, Saturday in Talisay City. The finals of the Inter-District tournament will be followed by the opening of the Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball competitions, which will be in honor of Mr. Oscar “Dodong” Bascon, a pillar of basketball in Negros Occidental.
The Governor’s Cup Inter-District 3X3 Basketball Tournament is part of the ABANSE NEGRENSE Sports Programs initiated by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson that aims to promote sports development at grassroots levels.
