BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Three brothers and their father of the prominent Luzuriaga clan here competed in the recent Extreme Euro Open 2022 in the Czech Republic with one of the siblings, Thomas, shooting his way to a third overall finish.
Results from the Euro Extreme Open showed Thomas Luzuriaga coming in third with a match percentage of 96.27, less than four points away from match winner Alfredo Catalan Jr and only about two percentage points behind second placer Robert Cemigoj.
Thomas’ two siblings – Joshua finished 26th overall while Carlos, 20, came in 14th.
Carlos was the youngest shooter in the Classic Division.
Their father, Charles, ranked 19th overall.
Charles’ wife, Marion Tricia Valderrama is a known restaurateur and art patron who owns Italia, the longest-running Italian cuisine inspired restaurant here.
The Luzuriaga are among 643 shooters from across the world who joined the competition reputed as the biggest shooting event in the Czech Republic and has attracted competitors from across the globe.
It is a competition classified as Level 3 or a large match by the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC).
The Luzuriagas all competed in the Classic Division of the Euro Open, a handgun division introduced recently in which competitors are required to use, among other specific rules, the 1911-A1 frame designed by American gunmaker John Browning.
All4Shooters calls the division “back to roots,” with pistols using a single row magazine with calibers ranging from 10mm (caliber .40), the .40 S and W or. 45 ACP.
