Sunday tragedy: Family outing turns deadly at sea, four drown in Cadiz City

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – A family outing with their neighbors turned deadly in the northern Negros city of Cadiz, as four people drowned, two of them children, who were swimming in the waters around a reef off the coast of that city’s mainland around 54 kilometers north of here.

Police sources told DNX the dead included two children, aged 15 and 13, a mother, and another adult man who were all declared dead at the Cadiz Emergency Clinic where they were rushed after being rescued from the waters around Kabilang-bilangan Reef in Sicaba village.

Cadiz deputy for operations, Lt. Alfonso Preshia, named the dead as Marlyn Aguirre, 33 and a neighbor, Remymar Ocon, 31, and the two children.

Camp Montelibano spokesman, Lt. Judesses Catalogo, said the elder Aguirre tried to save her son, Mcjohn, who was the first to drown around 1pm today, 28 August 2022.

The others tried to help the Aguirres but got drowned themselves in the waters around the reef that is a 30-minute boat ride away from the Cadiz mainland, Corporal Remy Francis Ambos, who is probing the incident, added.
