Rows lead to one dead, one wounded in Sugarlandia

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – A row over land led to a brother stabbed dead while another over a finger wrestling rematch led to the wounding of a laborer in two separate incidents in the province.

John Miles Claud, 19, was stabbed by Jason Ablanida, 31, 8pm Sunday, 14 August 2022 after they argued over a rematch for a finger wrestling game called here as “turnilyo”in Candoni town.

The two were having a drinking spree at the house of a certain ‘Panoy Tida’ when the incident happened.

Drinking mates who saw the incident rushed him to the Candoni Rural Health Unit where he was recommended for transfer to the Kabankalan City District Hospital.

Town chief probe, Lieutenant Sherwin H. Galupar, told DNX they have yet to know who lost and won the first game and who demanded for a rematch since witnesses gave conflicting statements.

Meanwhile, an argument over land led to a man stabbing his brother dead in neighboring Bago City.

Arturo Vicente, 58, died after being stabbed by his elder brother, Hernane Vicente, 66 when Hernane gave chase to Arturo.

Police Master Sergeant Erwin Jamandre told DNX Hernane was said to be exiting his house around 4pm when he was seen by Arturo who was reportedly drunk and who followed him.

A chase happened between the two until after Hernane ran to avoid an argument but when he stopped to catch, he was caught by the victim.

An argument broke out that led to Hernane stabbing Arturo with a jungle bolo.

Arturo was brought by first responders to the Bago City Hospital where he was declared dead upon arriving by a physician, Zyrashyn Marie Cawiling.

The suspect who is currently detained may not be charged for his crime by the family of the victim due to his old age, Jamandre said.
