BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A small village here has started to scale up its fight versus the nCoronavirus as a sense of worry and unease continues to pervade this city that is the political and commercial center of the province.

It is also here where the tertiary-level Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital ran by the government is located.

It is the main isolation facility for persons under investigation and where negative pressure rooms are located.

As the city local nCov task force headed by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran ramps up preparations against the nCov, Village 13 chief Andre Familiaran, the vice-mayor’s son, is going on a full-court press at his level.

Only a week after distributing free health packs to the elderly, Andre is preparing them more with anti-pneumonia and influenza shots for them to avoid complications that can prove fatal if they are infected with nCov.

It is not only now that Andre is stepping up health preparations.

Last year, the barangay had bought its own fogging machine in for its anti-dengue drive.

“Any village can borrow it, all they have to buy is the anti-mosquito chemical,” Andre adds.

With a budget of only P3 million a year, Andre, who owns the Uba Laba Ilomggowear store, said health is one of the priorities he and the council have identified.

Village 13 might be small but its barangay chief thinks they can do big in the fight versus the virus.
