BACOLOD CITY – The proposed law to establish a Bacolod Export Zone Authority in this highly-urbanized center of half a million people was heard yesterday by the House committee on economic affairs, making Cong. Greg Gasataya’s “dream” move closer to reality.

House Bill 5440 or the “Act providing for the legal framework and mechanisms for the creation, operation, administration, and coordination of special economic zones in the city of Bacolod, province of Negros Occidental creating for this purpose the Bacolod Economic Zone Authority, and for other purposes.”

Gasataya told DNX the BEZA, once established, will generate more local jobs that will allow graduates to work at home.

The solon said foreign companies can already invest in export zones and can open up other sectors like manufacturing to take in graduates.

This, in turn, will mean better income opportunities and wage rates that might be higher compared to those in Manila or Cebu where most Bacolod jobseekers flock to.
