Police probe highway collision that left four people, two of them brothers, dead

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Police in the coastal town of Valladolid are still probing an early morning road accident that left four people dead after a highway inferno caused by the collision of two wing van trucks.

Police identified those who were killed aa brothers Wendell, 37, a driver and Carlos, 26.

Both are surnamed Larios and natives of Mabinay, Negros Oriental.

The driver of the other truck, Diany Garcia, of hacienda Pula, E. Lopez village in Silay City; and his helper, Evel Elostrisimo, were also both killed.

Police investigation showed that the wing van driven by Larios was heading north on the highway in the village of Sa Gwa Banwa, when it collided with the other truck heading south.

Acting town chief, Capt. Wilfredo Benoman, Jr., said the truck driven by Larios swerved into the lane of the other vehicle.

He added a fuel tank of one of the trucks could have been torn loose by the impact, causing the fire.

The wing van driven by Garcia was destroyed by the fire while that of Larios’ was partially burnt.

It took rescuers five hours to retrieve the bodies from the accident site.
