BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Private medical facility Adventist Medical Center will probe the complaints from relatives of an elderly woman who died of cardiac arrest and was treated as a suspected COVID case last week.

The hospital, in a letter sent DNX, confirmed to have admitted the patient and gave the assurance that their client experience officer will be in touch with the family.

Thank you for bringing this matter up. We are currently investigating the turn of events that led to this complaint from the family of (name of patient). Also, our Client Experience officer is getting in touch with the family member to better get the full story and the concerns.
As such, we have delivered our proper and appropriate medical management for the patient. Because of the volume of the specimen processed by the biolabs here and out of the province, the 24- hours turn around time of the RT-PCR result may have been difficult to attain. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused as we try hard to ensure the health, safety and protection of our patients and their families especially in the challenging situation posed by the Covid pandemic.
Despite of our ER Isolation overflowing with its capacity and our COVID area waiting list has extended to more than the rooms we have allotted, we continue to ensure competent and compassionate care for our patients. We are glad that this matter has been brought to our attention for immediate action to address concerns.

Nelly, however, the grandchild of the victim who complained to DNX, said her aunt went to the hospital this afternoon and was told by an employee who she identified as “Rica” to have told her (the aunt) to not create a fuss about the issue “indi na magpagamo.”
The results have not yet been released, however, which makes it difficult to process the pre-need plan with a funeral parlor.
Nelly added the hospital has already released a temporary death certificate needed to process the burial claims of the state-owned pension firm SSS.
