Heavy rains brought by Karding leads to hundreds evacuated, classes, govt offices suspended in most parts

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The southern part of Negros Occidental is the most affected by heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon Karding with Sipalay City and Cauayan town being badly hit.

Meanwhile, nine cities and 16 towns in the whole province has suspended classes with most declaring all levels to be halted, while some are only from Kinder to Grade 12.

Around 18 families were evacuated by the local disaster unit in Cauayan town in two villages, Caliling and Inayawan, while in Sipalay City, 116 families were pre-emptively evacuated by the disaster response unit there in the four assigned evacuation centers, Capitol disaster czar Zeaphard Gerhart V. Caelian said.

Caelian added that Sipalay City also reported that 63 farmers are affected with 9.97 metric tons valued at P620,883 of crops lost.

Punta Barasbarasan Dike in barangay (village) Manlucahoc in the city was reported to be partially damaged amounting to P500,000 in damages.

In Brgy. 2 in Sipalay City, a power outage was reported to have started from 7:35 pm until 9:35 pm that is isolated.
