BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines — Bacolod Cong. Greg Gasataya calls to continue strict border control, among other things as Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia issued a warning on illegal exodus of persons from Cebu City amid the increase of COVID-19 cases.

The congressman, in a statement, said border control should continue including shorelines of coastal villages to guard against “illegal entry” of persons using private motorized bancas, or fishing boats.

Gasataya also called for strict inspection of possible “illegal entry” of people inside cargo trucks, since the Cebu governor claimed certain individuals hide even in delivery trucks and ambulances in the sea ports.

“We in Bacolod and Negros are into [enhanced community quarantine]. We have sacrificed a lot for this. We should not put to waste the efforts of our frontliners, our people, and everyone else and God forbid go back to square one if [a confirmed case gets through],” the solon said, adding, “Please let us all help monitor our borders, if we receive any information text it to your respective barangay officials and local authorities”.
