BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – He was larger than life, a “rare breed” who excelled in both business and politics.

This is how Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia described business magnate Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, Jr. in a statement furnished to Bacolod media.

Leonardia said Cojuangco was “a natural leader” whose penchant for siding with the underdog, the mayor said “proved to be the turning point of my political career”.

The chief executive also called Cojuangco “an icon who made a major and lasting impact in the growth and advancement” of the country, as well as a man who had “touched countless lives”.

“He was a major and dominant figure here in our island as he changed our physical and political landscapes,” the mayor added, saying how the industrialist had advocated for education and spearheaded the advancement of professional growth.
