The Delta variant and the low vaccination rate were blamed for the surges in CoViD cases in Bacolod since the first quarantine status was declared last March 2020.
Data from the Emergency Operations Center show that the first surge was in September of 2020, when CoViD cases peaked at 2,605.
This is a spike of 209 percent from the previous month, August which only had 1,244.
September 2020’s number of active cases is also more than the combined number of the six previous months (2605 vs 1605, or a difference of 1,000).
The first surge was when the city was placed under General Community quarantine for one week and back to modified enhance community quarantine on the remaining days of the month.
On the first week of the first surge, cases have reached to 1,364 with bacolod city then having the highest recorded active cases among of those in Region 6 having 87 average of reported cases a day.
The second surge meanwhile happened this June 2021 when the city was placed under Modified General Community quarantine for the whole month having 119 average case per day, or 3,557 cases during the entire month, the highest among the three surges.
EOC executive director Em Ang said this could be the time when the Delta variant entered the city.
The Delta, or the B.1.617 was first identified in India. It spreads more easily than other variants and may cause more severe cases than other variants.
Two months later, Bacolod had another surge. September 2021 peaked at 3,331 or an average of 111 cases a day.
Bacolod was then on a General Community quarantine with heightened restrictions classification at the time.
Ang also said that if people remain more cautious, or have themselves vaccinated, the fourth surge might not hit the city.
