BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The heinous crime involving the highest ranking Capitol official killed here has officially been placed in the freezer.
“It’s officially a cold case,” Lt. Ruby Aureta, spokesperson of the San Carlos Police told DNX more than a year after Marton Cui, a consultant of the provincial government was shot in front of the building where he holds office in the coastal city around 84 kilometers north of here.
Cui’s murder early in the evening of 12 April 2021 was near a popular hangout at the city plaza.
It was initially suspected that Cui was shot from long range, possibly with a sniper rifle and from inside a parked car although police have yet to disclose the forensic findings on spent shells found near the crime scene.
Aureta said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, a special arm of the National Police, will handle the probe of the Cui murder and the San Carlos Police will only provide the documents and evidences related to the probe.
The standard operating procedure of the National Police defines a cold case as: “… a case at hand that has not been cleared or solved and which probative investigative leads have been exhausted, however, yielded negative result or progress for six months.”
Capitol had announced shortly after the murder that it has put up a P1.5 million reward for those who can provide information leading to the arrest of the killer or killers of Cui.
