BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Bus giant Ceres Liner is not joining the one-day nationally-coordinated transport strike today while one transport group will continue to field public utility jeepneys in major routes here.
“We have already complied with all the requirements of the (Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board),” legal affairs and media relations officer Jade Marquez said when asked why Ceres management is not joining the strike.
This means that the more than 4,000 buses of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies in all its 15 stations will continue plying their routes.
In the city, jeepneys of members the United Negros Transport Cooperative (UNETCO) will ply major routes and several out-town destinations.

In Victorias City, an hour away from here, Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca issued an advisory that there is no cancellation of work or classes.
“There is no transport strike. Buses (CERES), and tricycles will continue to carry passengers in the city,” Palanca said in a message posted on his Facebook page.

“We feel what they feel, too but there are passengers who must be served,” Ochia said.
Aside from that, UNETCO was reminded by the Office of Transport Cooperatives of the transportation department that joining the strike would lead to a cancellation of their accreditations.
