Now in the limelight after his supermarket cover of Grammy winner Sam Smith’s Too Good at Goodbyes caught the attention of Smith and, lately, Taylor Swift, Carl Malone allowed DNX to take a glimpse inside his life.

“I was just a simple kid who played on the streets and was happy enough to eat three times a day,” Carl Malone tells DNX.

Aside from being a finalist in a national TV singing contest, Carl Malone had already been “discovered” by local politicians, among them Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and lone district Cong. Greg Gasataya who both commissioned him to do their campaign jingles.

In between being bullied as a kid, Carl has also known heartbreaks over a woman he once fell in love with.

He did not discuss details about her except saying that she “already has a boyfriend.”
