BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Mayor Evelio Leonardia has appealed once again to the National Inter-Agency Task Force to downgrade the status of the city to Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) until 30 November 2020.

The mayor said he is still fighting for the MGCQ status even after he issued on Saturday, 31 October an executive order extending the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) in Bacolod until the end of the month.

He said that the Department of Health has rejected their appeal despite the consistent decrease of the number of Covid-19 cases in the month of October.

The city has recorded on Tuesday, 27 October the lowest daily record since July 16 with two active cases. One of which was a new case, while the other was a confirmatory swab test.

Leonardia added that before the adopted couple Ret. Major General Mel Feliciano and wife Mia Feliciano left the city, the IATF Visayas chief implementer has recommended to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año to downgrade the status of the city to MGCQ.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran earlier said that according to their evaluation, Bacolod City is qualified to downgrade into MGCQ status, but, they will still respect the decision of the NIATF, whatever it may be.
